Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln is one of the greatest presidents that people throughout the United States of America remember. He was born on February 12, 1809. This famous man was growing up in Kentucky State. Lincoln's father had a name of Thomas and his mother's name was Nancy. He also had a sister named Sarah. Lincoln's family resided in a one room log cabin. When he was seven years old his family had to move. They moved for the reason that another man asserted to have bought the land before Abraham's parents did. In addition, they moved because the Lincolns' didn't desire to reside where people would be slaves. Abraham's new dwelling was in Indiana State. Slavery was restricted by the legislation there. The land that Lincoln's father bought was a part of land in Pigeon Creek.

In his childhood Lincoln attended a school called "Blab". It was named so for the reason that the students would all call out simultaneously. When Lincoln was eleven years old he abandoned school to be engaged in farming with his father. He had to assist in making money so that he could continue to study in school. When he was in school he learned how to read and write. Lincoln was one of a small number of people that could do either reading or writing at that time. Soon Lincoln's mother caught a disease called milk sick after drinking milk from an ill cow. She died later in October. Thomas Lincoln married again shortly after. Abraham moved to New Orleans to assist a friend taking farmer instruments. A year later the Lincolns' went to Illinois. However, Lincoln settled in Indiana since he was 21 years old and could live by himself. He settled in a little town of New Salem.

When Lincoln was at a party in Springfield he got acquainted with a woman named Mary Todd. They got married later on August 1, 1843. Shortly after they bought a house in Springfield. Four sons were born to their marriage with one son named Edward dying at birth in 1850. Three other Lincoln's sons were named Robert, William, and Thomas. On February 20, 1862 William left this world from an illness called typhoid fever.

In the year of 1860 Lincoln decided to participate in presidential elections. Among other candidates was Stephen Douglas. However, Stephen was not concerned with slavery problem as Lincoln was. Therefore, Lincoln won the presidential voting on November 6, 1860. Abraham did not become president until March 4, 1861. During these several months, 7 Southern States estranged from the rest of United States. Southern states didn't wish for Lincoln becoming their president. Those states turned into separate country called the Confederate States of America. Jefferson Davis became their president. Lincoln decided to engage the Union into war with the Confederate States. This war became to be identified as the Civil War. Lincoln initiated Civil War since he did not want black people to be treated as slaves. The war was believed to stop slavery and reunite the country. Robert E. Lee became the chief of the Confederate Soldiers. Winfield Scott was the commander of the Union Soldiers. The war was finished when Lee laid down his arms to the Union.

On April 14, 1865 when Lincoln was at Ford's Theatre an actor from the show named John Wilkes Booth shot and murdered Lincoln in the president's booth. Lincoln's corpse was placed in a sarcophagus and transported by train to Springfield to be buried. Nowadays Abraham Lincoln lives in the hearts of those people who keep in mind what he achieved for his country. A memorial statue called The Lincoln Memorial was created for Lincoln at Washington to admire and remember him.
