Religion Essays

The majority of people are at a difficulty when they start thinking about religion. They are unable to come to religion in a spirit of relative aloofness, as they would come up to the research of the stars, for instance. From babyhood they obtained their religious imagery and thoughts in an environment sensitively charged with the support or censure of their parents. When such humans happened to be communicants in a particular religious denomination their early religious thoughts were more established or changed.

It is to be estimated, thus, that whatever the explicit substance of a person's religion is, he will not consider it as a separate spectator. His own expectations and motivations are implicated; he is a partisan, not a stranger looking in. He matures persuaded that his individual recognizable viewpoint has some unusual virtue; at any case, it most likely draws the support of the people who mean for the most part to his feeling of safety. As a result, the word religion instantly suggests his religion; it puts forth a definite pull upon his sentiments and thoughts.

Consequently, the human who starts thinking about religion may discover himself recognizing his particular viewpoints with the real meaning of all religion. His own religious attitudes are glowing and fundamental to him, particularly if his religious education has been reliable and customary, and if his religion is psychologically associated with esteemed experiences at school, with family, and with friends.
